How Would You Strengthen Worker Safety? Ontario Wants To Know
Ontario wants the public’s input in creating a voluntary accreditation program that will recognize employers who put in extra effort to promote health and safety at their workplace.
Ontario is seeking not only employers but also employee’s input to create the recognition program.
Around the world, workplaces have begun to use internally recognized standards for workplace health and safety, which means that more workers get home safe and sound at the end of the day. Since 2003, Ontario’s become the safest province to work in with its annual workplace injuries rate drop by more than 50 per cent since 2003.
The Minister of Labour, Kevin Flynn states, “We are steadfast in our commitment to protecting the health and safety of workers. Ontario workplaces are the safest in Canada and among the safest in the world. Encouraging employers to put a priority on health and safety management through a voluntary accreditation program is just one more step our government is taking to nurture a culture of workplace safety and ensure workers get home safe every single day.”
