OSHA’s ‘Top 10’ Most Frequently Cited Violations of 2019

On Tuesday, Sept. 10th at the National Safety Council 2019 Congress & Expo, OSHA announced its ‘Top 10’ most frequently cited violations and at the top spot – for the ninth year in a row – is Fall Protection – General Requirements.

The deputy director of OSHA’s Directorate of Enforcement Programs, Patrick Kapust, presented the list that is based on Information System Data collected by OSHA from October 1st to August 15th.

Kapust stated, “Look at your own workplace and see where you can find solutions…These are common violations. They’ve been around for a while. The answers are out there.”

The full list remained fairly unchanged from the 2018 Fiscal year with Lockout/Tagout and Respiratory Protection switching 4th and 5th spots.

1) Fall Protection – General Requirements: 6,010 violations

2) Hazard Communication: 3,671

3) Scaffolding: 2,813

4) Lockout/Tagout: 2,606

5) Respiratory Protection: 2,450

6) Ladders: 2,345

7) Powered Industrial Trucks: 2,093

8) Fall Protection – Training Requirements: 1,773

9) Machine Guarding: 1,743

10) Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – Eye and Face Protection: 1,411
